Textual analysis of existing text- Deconstructing NME double page spread

This is a double page spread from NME magazine. From this I can learn what is important to include in my double page spread. I like the heading of this double page spread. Rather than just having an ordinary heading it is presented in a creative way. It looks as though each letter has been cut out from a newspaper. This looks mysterious. In horror films a threatening letter is presented with font like this so that the reader does not know who it is. In this instance it is used to create some suspicion. The heading is really big- it takes up half the page. This suggests how important the header of a double page spread is. Half of the double page spread is an image. It is an image of Lilly Allen, who the article is about. From this research I have learnt how little writing is in articles in music magazines. A bout 1/4 of the page is writing. I can assume this is probably to get the reader to read the magazine. If the reader is flicking through the magazine deciding whether or not to read it, the image and heading in this article are going to grab their attention because of how big they are and the interesting way they are laid out. On this double page spread there is a lack of colour but  I like the way the red on the models shirt matches the red text. This double page spread could come from any magazine, their is no way of identifying that it is from NME magazine. This is probably because the reader would get annoyed if there was the brands logo on every single page. I think you can tell that that this double page spread is from a music magazine because of how of artistic it is. If this was a women's magazine there would probably be a lot more writing and there wouldn't be as big an image. Young people may use pictures from music magazines as posters, this could be why the image is so big. I now know that I need to create a really interesting, artistic double page spread that has a big image.
