Textual analysis of existing texts- Deconstructing Q cover
This is a cover for Q magazine. Like most magazine covers the image is the most important feature. The image in this cover takes up two thirds of the cover. The artist on the cover is Adele. When Adele was on the cover of vogue, the magazine received the worst sales it had ever had. However Q is not a fashion magazine and having Adele on the cover for a music magazine would work well because people who like Adele would buy the magazine. The image itself is really rebellious, Adele does not look sweet and innocent she looks adventurous. This would encourage people to buy the magazine because some audiences may read the magazine to gratify their needs of comparing their lifestyles to others. The main cover line is the name of the model. From my research I have found that this is common for music magazine covers. This particular cover line also gives the model credit which is an idea I could use. The masthead does not take up all of the top of the page, it is only in the left corner. In my opinion this is a very brave thing to do. If the masthead was along the whole of the top of the page it would be easier for the audience to recognize it. NME also does this. I believe this is something only music magazines can pull off. Music magazines are slightly braver than fashion magazines for example. On the cover is a gold circle expressing that this is the 300th issue. This is almost as if Q magazine are showing off- it is a simple way of promoting the magazine. I really like on this cover how all the cover lines are in the same place rather than spread out across the page. They are all in the left bottom half corner. I think this looks quite stylish because it looks tidy. The main colours on the cover are red, white and black. These are all very bold colours and they work well together. I have found from my research that the colour red is quite conventional for a magazine cover. I have learnt that red is an ideal colour to use.
