One of the tips suggested was taking was to have direct eye contact. Having direct eye contact can create different effects. In some instances direct eye contact can look a little bit aggressive and threatening and it is most commonly used in rock magazines. Sometimes direct eye contact can look really reassuring. When I take my photos I think I need to experiment with direct eye contact. Another tip suggested using a plain background. This is so the background does not distract from the main focus of the image. I was planning on using a plain background anyway. I also researched the rule of thirds. This is when you place the main object/person not in the centre so that it looks more authentic and it also gives the reader more to look at so it is more interesting. A tip was to focus the image and avoid shaking the camera. One tip was to use flash indoors, I am hoping to take my picture outside anyway so this shouldn't matter. In terms of lighting a recommendation was to use very high key lighting and to get the light to face the model. One suggestion was to get the model to relax to make the photo look natural. I had a look at how to take pictures of bands. This is not something I was planning on doing but it was useful just in case.
A tip was to include small but important details. Use and interesting background that suits the genre.
Clever composition of the band member. Not too spread out.
