I am currently constructing my front cover. I have done various drafts of this. In this post I will use what I learnt about intertextuality and compare how similar my cover is to other music magazine covers.
A similarity is the use of the colour yellow and white. When I did my planning I noted that these were conventional colours. Yellow is known to be the colour that catches an audiences attention the most. When a magazine is on a stand the cover is what will be shown. The yellow will catch the attention straight away. I would say that I have followed a similar house style to NME. In the left third I have the masthead and a selling line. I have used the idea of having words of a sentence in different colours. I have slightly used the conventions of covering the masthead with the main image. A typical convention that is present in both the NME covers is to only use a colour palette of 3/4 colours. I have definitely used intertextuality with my cover compared to other medias.
There is also differences between my cover and other music magazine covers. One difference is that I have forgotten the convention of using a barcode. In both magazine covers the barcode is in exactly the same place. A change I could make to my magazine is to include a barcode. In both of the NME covers there is a masthead that is in a circle. This is something I could consider using as the position if the cover lines was something I was having difficulty with. The position of my cover lines is quite different to the NME covers. Having most of the covers to one side seems slightly unconventional. If I wanted my magazine to be very conventional I could change the position of my cover lines.
